Walter J. Winder
Walter J. "Jim" Winder, 76, of 2113 Lincoln St., died Tuesday, April 9, 2002, in the Williamsport Hospital. He and his wife, the former Bernice Mahonski, celebrated their 51st wedding anniversary on Dec. 30, 2001.
Born May 24, 1925, in Williamsport, Jim was a son of Walter R. and Martha I. Fornwalt Winder. He was manager of Frey’s Tire Shop for 24 years and was an insurance salesman for five years. He served in the Air Force, Army and National Guard during World War II and Korea. He attended Michigan State University.
Jim was a member of Holy Rosary Church. He was also a member of VFW Post 7863, Duboistown, American Legion Post 104, Montoursville, and the Disabled American Veterans Post 47. He was also an avid hunter and fisherman.
Surviving, in addition to his wife, are seven children, James J. of Hughesville, John C. of Linden, David E. of Montgomery, Tina M. of Muncy, Judy L. LaForme of Loganton, Richard A. of Montoursville and Lisa A. of Salladasburg; 15 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a brother, a son and a grandson, all named William.
Friends may call at Sanders Mortuary, 821 Diamond St., from 8:30-9:30 a.m. Friday. A prayer service will be held at the funeral home at 9:30 followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in Holy Rosary Church, 315 Arch St., with his pastor, the Rev. Andrew J. Krusinski, celebrating. Burial will be in Wildwood Cemetery with military honors by the Korean War Veterans.
