Missing Hunter Found Dead in Sullivan County Dushore, Pa., Dec. 12 - William Grant Beeman, 69, of East Forks, who disappeared while hunting Wednesday, was found at 12:15 o'clock today lying dead in the woods. About 140 men had been looking for him since the alarm was given by his son Wilbur Wednesday evening. Vernon Hatch, postmaster at Forksville, found Beeman about a mile and a half northeast of Sportsman's Park near Bear Creek. He was lying on his face, his right arm stretched out ahead of him and his left arm under him as he clutched at his heart. His gun, which lay nearby, had not been fired. Lunch and a bottle of coffee he carried had not been touched so it was surmised that he died before Wednesday noon.
Coroner Gail Worthington viewed the body at the scene and declared death due to a heart attack. It was very apparent that he didn't move after he fell.
This noon the Red Cross provided a lunch and hot coffee for the searchers. The work was done by office holders and clerks in the court house and the food was taken to the searchers by Sheriff C.R. Kschinka, who had been directing the search. Assisting in combing the woods were state police, local officers, game and forest wardens, and dozens of volunteers from both Sullivan and Bradford counties. Mr. Beeman and his son started hunting Wednesday morning in the area between Sones Pond and the old CCC Camp No. 95. They separated on leaving the truck and the son hunted all day without seeing his father. About 4 o'clock the son returned to the truck and fired several shots from his rifle as a signal. He waited some time and finally went home thinking his father had caught a ride with someone else. When the father hadn't returned by 7:30 p.m., the son notified the sheriff. Mr. Beeman is survived by his wife, Etta Hunsinger Beeman; three sons, Leonard of Danville, Herbert of East Forks, and William at home; two daughters, Mrs. Helen Bailey of New Albany RD 3, and Mrs. Annabelle Vough of New Albany. The body is at the Cranmer Funeral Home in New Albany, and Sunday afternoon will be taken to the family home in East Forks where prayer services will be held Monday at 1 p.m. Further services will be held in the Reformed Church at Overton at 2 o'clock with Rev. Elden Erhart of Dushore officiating, assisted by the Rev. C.B. Meyers, also of Dushore. Interment will be in the adjoining cemetery. (His obituary appeared in the Bradford Star on June 15, 1911, and also in the Wyalusing Rocket on June 14, 1911.)
