Doris Winder Carle
       Doris Winder Carle, 76, of 926 Nicely Ave., Montoursville, died Monday, Aug. 4, 2003, at the Roseview Center, Williamsport, where she had resided since May 2003.
       Born June 22, 1927, in Williamsport, she was the daughter of C. Larue and Erma L. Rokenbrod Hunter.
       Doris is the widow of Austin R. Winder who died in 1973, and of J. Charles Carle, who died in 1999.
       She is survived by a daughter, Loraine E. (Jess P. II) Hackenburg; a son, Richard A. (Jo Ellen) Winder, both of Montoursville; two stepdaughters, Janice Heath of Montgomery and Beverly Winder of South Williamsport; a brother, Herman B. Hunter of Kentucky; a sister, Jeannine Bertolet of Philadelphia; two grandsons, Matthew A. Winder of Montoursville and Tech. Sgt. Christopher L. Winder USAF Texas; two stepgrandsons, Major James Ulman, USAF, Illinois and Tech. Sgt. James Young, USAF (Ret.) of South Carolina; three stepgranddaughters, Susan Lynch of Montgomery, Patricia Young of Hughesville and Lisabeth Sawyer of Mass; two stepgreat-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
       She was predeceased by a sister, Thelma L. Karcher; a brother, C. Larue Hunter Jr.; and a stepdaughter, Penny Sawyer.
       Doris was a member of the Church of Our Saviour, Episcopal, Montoursville. She sang in the choir and served on the Church Vestry, and the Gleam Council.
       She was a graduate of Williamsport High School, class of 1945. She was employed by the Nashua Manufacturing Corporation, Montoursville; the First National Bank of Montoursville; the Bank of Central Pennsylvania and the Commonwealth Bank, from which she retired.
       She was a member of the ABWA, Otzinachson Chapter, and the Williamsport Civic Chorus, where she served as a two-term president. In 2001, the choir director wrote their signature piece, “Sing On,” which was written in her honor and has been sung locally and abroad.
       She was also a member of the National Rifle Association, the Wheel Inn at Roaring Branch, the General John Burrows Historical Society of Montoursville (charter member) and the Williamsport Lycoming County Council of Republican Women.
       A memorial services and inurnment will be held at her church, 31 N. Loyalsock Ave., Montoursville, at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Aug. 7, with the Revs. Robert Carver and Shelly Baer officiating. Flowers will be provided by the family. A reception will be held following the service in the church social hall. In lieu of flowers, at her request, the family suggest donations be made to the Church of Our Saviour in memory of Doris W. Carle.

Kathryn Elizabeth Hackenburg
       Kathryn Elizabeth Hackenburg, 94, resident of Montoursville, passed away Monday, Aug. 4, 2003, at Manor Care North in Williamsport, where she had been a resident since November 2002.
       Born Sept. 24, 1908, at Bath, Northampton County, she was the daughter of the late Charles R. B. Hayes and Grace Connelly Meyer.
       She was predeceased by a sister, Mabel Meyer Parrish of San Diego, Calif.; and a brother, George Meyer of Harrisburg. A younger brother, Thomas O. Meyer of Virginia survives.
       She was the wife of Jess P. Hackenburg, deceased May 14, 1996. They were married in the Union County Courthouse, Lewisburg, on Oct. 31, 1937, and celebrated 59 years of marriage.
       She was a long time member of the Bethany Lutheran Church in Montoursville, and was active in her Sunday School class and various church activities.
       She was a graduate of the Williamsport High School, class of 1926. Prior to and after graduation she was employed by the L.L. Stearns & Son department store in Williamsport in various management positions, and finally as a buyer for several departments.
       After her marriage she became a homemaker with many talents, and was secretary and office manager for the family business, J.P. Hackenburg Aviation, located at the Williamsport and Lewisburg Airports.
       She is survived by her son, Jess P. Hackenburg II (daughter-in-law, Loraine Hackenburg) and son, Thomas L. Hackenburg.
       She was an organist at the Market Street Methodist Church for many years and was noted for the genteel life style and her active social and leadership skills and for the many hours she devoted to volunteer work.
       She held various offices and chaired many committees in the following organizations: Williamsport Council of Republican Women of Lycoming County, Montoursville Garden Club, Eugene Grafius Unit 104 Auxiliary plus 16th District and the Central Section of the American Legion, the General John Burrows Historical Society of Montoursville (charter member), the Loyalsock Valley Antique Machinery Association and Unit 382 of the 40/8 Ladies Auxiliary, Department of Pennsylvania. Of special note, the Aviation Pioneers, OX-5 Club of Pennsylvania, of which she was a founding member, honored her by electing her as National Woman of the Year for her longtime service, dedication and early aviation experiences.
       A memorial service and interment will be at the convenience of the family. In keeping with her wishes, in lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial contributions be made to the General John Burrows Historical Society of Montoursville, Post Office Box 385, Montoursville, PA 17754, designated for the upkeep and maintenance of the flowers beds, grounds and fishpond.

Jacqueline Mase, 78 of RR1 Box 83, Liberty died Friday, October 11, 2002. She was born January 30, 1924 in Blossburg, the daughter of Harry and Lydia Krause Winder. She married Gordon Mase on March 6, 1946. Gordon predeceased her in death on April 30 1997.

Jacqueline attended the Liberty Lutheran Church and was an auxillary member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Robert F. Snyder Post No. 6755 in Liberty.

Surviving are her sons; Ronald (Marsha) Mase and Barry Mase, both of Liberty; a sister Fay Phelps of Liberty; six grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, her parents and a brother, William Winder, preceded her in death.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday Oct. 15 in the Liberty Lutheran Church with the Rev. David Byerly officiating.
Friends will be received from 10 to 11 am at the church. Burial will follow in the Union Cemetery, East Point.
The family will provide the flowers. If desired, donations may be made tothe Liberty Lutheran Parish.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the Freeburg Funeral Home, Blossburg.

    Joshua L. Grimes, 25, passed away Aug. 20, at his home, 1024 W. Central Ave., South Williamsport.
       Josh attended South Williamsport schools, loved skateboarding, low-rider vehicles and really cared about people.
       He is survived by his father, Mark A. Grimes; three daughters, Tye, 5, Alayna, 2 and Nina, 18 months; two sisters, Mindy and Patricia; paternal grandparents, Philip L. and Janet R. Grimes; one nephew; one niece; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.

Lois W. Fraley
       Lois W. Fraley, 75, of 9739 Route 442, Muncy, died Tuesday, Sept. 2, 2003, at the Muncy Valley Hospital Skilled Nursing Unit. She and her husband Earl celebrated their 51st wedding anniversary on Aug. 22. She was born in Muncy on Dec. 18, 1927, the daughter of the late John and Edna (Metzger) Woodling.
       Lois had been employed by the former Sprout-Waldron, Muncy and Lowe’s Market, Clarkstown as a produce manager. She was a member of the Moreland Baptist Church.
       Surviving besides her husband are two sons; Earl Fraley Jr. of Elysburg and Glenn Fraley of Muncy; two daughters, Julie Whitmoyer of Muncy and Terri Minotto of Pottstown; four brothers, Jack Woodling of Hughesville, Max Woodling of Muncy, Ronnie Woodling of Illinois and Kenny Woodling of Picture Rocks; seven sisters, June Houseknecht and Ruth Stump, both of Muncy, Phyllis Croman of the Skilled Nursing Unit, Linda Clinger of Milton, Judy Stuggart of Hughesville, Mary Shaffer of Montgomery and Doris Everhart of Kansas City, Mo. Eight grandchildren also survive her. She is predeceased by one sister Wanda Blaker.
       The funeral will be Saturday, 11 a.m., at the Moreland Baptist Church, 118 Moreland Baptist Road, Muncy, with her pastor, the Rev. Dr. Paul T. Fitzgerald, officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Friends will be received at McCarty-Thomas Funeral Home, 557 E. Water St., Hughesville, on Friday from 7 to 9 p.m.
