He apparently went back to Italy to return in 1924 with his wife, Teresa, and daughter, Rosa. After the third child, Frank, was born Teresa died in about 1927. Paolo returned to Italy once more to court a wife for his three small children. The village of Canolo was alerted that Paolo was to return for this purpose, so the matriarcal women of the village started to recruit young women as potential candidates. Some young women said, "No way do I want to go to American to raise three of this man's children." But one young lady, Maria Femia agreed to the courtship.
