OSTHUES-Arnold R., (Pat), of Rockville Centre, on March 31, 2004, at the age of 94. Beloved husband of the late Grace (nee Stirrat). Loving brother of the late Marguerite Yannelli and Rudolph Osthues. Cherished uncle of Frank Yannelli, Jane Rinn, Pamela Nichols and the late Robert Osthues and Beatrice Rattmann. Also survived by seven grandnephews and four grandnieces. Eucharistic Service, 12 noon Friday April 2 at St.Peter's Evangelical Lutheran Church, Baldwin. Interment Lutheran Cemetery, Middle Village, N.Y. Arrangements entrusted to Fullerton Funeral Home.

James F. Alessio
James F. Alessio, 74, of 422 Barkeyville Road, Pine Township, Mercer County, died at 9:55 p.m. Saturday at Butler Memorial Hospital following a long illness.
Born Aug. 9, 1929, in Volant, he was a son of Paul and Maria Femia Alessio Sr.
Mr. Alessio was a longtime resident of Grove City. He retired in 1991 from Cooper Energy Services in Grove City, where he was a machinist for 43 years.
He was a member of the Church of the Beloved Disciple, Grove City.
Mr. Alessio was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War.
He held memberships in the Grove City Knights of Columbus Council 3658, where he was a past grand knight, and the V.F.W. Post 519 of Grove City.
He was an avid fisherman, hunter and gardener.
He is survived by a daughter, Mary Alessio of Grove City; two sons, Vincent Alessio and Joseph Alessio, both of Grove City and a granddaughter. Also surviving are 10 sisters, Rose Lewis of Jacksonville, Fla., Tressa Bellissimo of Ellwood City, Catherine Yonchak of Chesterland, Ohio, Ervia Martini of Coatsville, Esther Koonan of Rockville, MD, Sylvia Lynch of Silver Springs, MD, Julia Alessio of Fredericksburg, Va., Mary Hendrickson of Las Vegas, Virginia Alessio of Wheatland and Edith Yount of Peoria, Il; three brothers, Frank Alessio and Paul Alessio Jr., both of Grove City and John Alessio of Minnesota.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Lena JoAnn Lovaglio, who died April 30, 1998, and whom he married June 25, 1955.
Also preceding him in death was a brother.
ALESSIO - Friends of James F. Alessio, who died Saturday, April 3, 2004, will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at CUNNINGHAM FUNERAL HOME, 306 Bessemer Ave., Grove City. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Church of the Beloved Disciple, Grove City, with Monsignor Edward Zeitler, church pastor, officiating. Burial will be in the Crestview Memorial Park.

     Introducing Dean Alessio
Dr. John Alessio will be the next dean of the College of Social & Behavioral Sciences. In
announcing the appointment Vice President Scott Olson said, "John has a tremendous breadth and
depth of experience that makes him the ideal person for Minnesota State Mankato and the
College," Scott said. "He not only has extensive experience as dean of a large college at
Marywood University, but he also has extensive experience with our own IFO collective
bargaining agreement and style of shared governance." He currently is professor of Sociology and
Anthropology at St. Cloud State University, where he served from 2003 until present, and from
1984-2000. He has held several faculty leadership positions at St. Cloud State, including director
of Sociology and director of the Social Responsibility MS program. At St. Cloud he also served
as president of the University Faculty Association and state treasurer of the IFO. From 2000 until
2003 he was dean of the Undergraduate School at Marywood University in Scranton, Pa.,
responsible for budgets and curricula for 60 programs, 19 departments, 100 full-time faculty and
1,600 students. At Marywood he led and completed a successful core curriculum transformation
project.
From 1980-1984 he was a Sociology faculty member at Penn State University- Behrend,
and from 1978-1980 was a faculty member and director the Sociology program at Gannon
University, Erie, Pa. He also has been an instructor at Southern Illinois University-Carbondale, an
instructor and interim vice president at Viterbo College, LaCrosse, Wis., and a data analyst for
the City of Carbondale, Ill. He earned a Ph.D. in Sociology from Southern Illinois University, an
MA in Sociology from Eastern Illinois University, and a BA in Sociology from Loyola
University of Chicago. He has published papers in a number of professional journals including
Social Psychology Quarterly, Journal of Marriage & Family, Social Forces, Journal of
Psychology, and the American Sociological Review. He wrote and directed a funded grant for a
curriculum transformation project to increase diversity and inclusiveness at St. Cloud State, and is
co-developer of an interdisciplinary graduate program, MS in Social Responsibility.
