Marion L. Ryder

Marion L. Ryder, 81, of Hughesville, died Sunday, Feb. 12, 2006, at the Muncy Valley Hospital Skilled Nursing Unit.

Born March 27, 1924, in Muncy, she was a daughter of Samuel and Mary Jessie Clayton Gottschall. Her husband of 56 years, Clifton L. Ryder, died June 28, 1996.

Marion attended the Hughesville Baptist Church for over 50 years and was a Sunday School teacher for many of those years. She enjoyed baking, cooking, helping others and above all, spending time with her grandchildren. Marion also attended the Muncy Senior Center.

Surviving are a son, Samuel T. Ryder of Oakland, Tenn.; three daughters, Violet M. Golder of Watsontown, Rose M. Kaufman of Montoursville and Tammy S. Ryder of Hughesville; a brother, Ward Gottschall of Hughesville; six grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

Marion was preceded in death by three brothers, Aurther, Carl and Willard Gottschall; two sisters, Mable Dirk and Myrtal Farrar; and two grandchildren, David Golder and Jane Golder.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Friday at the McCarty-Thomas Funeral Home, 557 E. Water St., Hughesville, with the Rev. Paul Murphy officiating. Burial will follow in Twin Hills Memorial Park. Friends may call from 10 to 11 a.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Ward S. Gottschall

Ward S. Gottschall, 80, of Hughesville, died Aug. 26, 2006, at the Muncy Valley Hospital Skilled Nursing Unit.

Born Feb. 7, 1926, in Rabbittown, he was a son of Samuel and Mary Jessie (Clayton) Gottschall.

Ward was formerly employed for 25 years by the former Sprout-Waldron Co. in Muncy and retired from Local 810 Pipefitters/Steamfitters Union.

He was a U.S. Navy Veteran of WWII, serving as an Aviation Gunners Mate.

Ward was a lifetime member of VFW Post 3428 in Muncy and American Legion Post 35 in Hughesville. He was a member of Highland Lake 40et8.

Surviving are three sons, Russell (Pam) Gottschall of Hughesville, Ross (S. Patricia) Gottschall of Muncy and Randy Gottschall and his fiance, Lisa High of Muncy; six grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.

Ward is preceded in death by his former wife, Maxine Spring; three brothers, Arthur, Carl and Willard; and three sisters, Mabel Dirk, Myrtle Farrar and Marion Ryder.

Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at McCarty-Thomas’, 557 E. Water St., Hughesville, with the Rev. Bethany Wood officiating. Burial will be in Lairdsville Cemetery with graveside military honors. Friends may call from 1 to 2 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
