Individual Note: A very interesting story appears in the Gazette and Bulletin, Williamsport, PA on Friday, September 8, 1905 (p. 5) regarding the suicide of Lewis Clees. In summary, he was working for Fred Hiller on his farm and quit his job on the previous Wednesday due to problems with the Hiller family. A suicide note was found by his parents in his bedroom at home. The note blamed the mother of a young lady whom Clees had taken an interest. Mr. Clees was found dead near the side of the road leading from Montoursville to Farragut near the Petriken and Stugart farms.

Rebecca L. Fenstamaker
Rebecca L. Fenstamaker, 85, of Pennsdale, died Friday, April 6, 2007, at the Williamsport Hospital Emergency Room.
Born July 12, 1922, in Lairdsville, she was a daughter of the late Harry E. and Amanda E. Sones Spring. Her husband of 58 years, George Fenstamaker, preceded her in death on September 3, 2005.
Rebecca attended the Lairdsville Grade School and was a Hughesville High School, graduate class of 1942. She retired from the former GTE Sylvania in Montoursville after having worked there for 31 years. Rebecca was a former member of the Pennsdale Fire Company Ladies Auxiliary and she enjoyed cooking, baking and liquid embroidery.
Surviving are a brother, Ralph S. Spring of Muncy and several nieces and nephews.
Rebecca was preceded in death by four brothers, Eugene, George, Carl and Russell Spring; and a sister, Molita Grove.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Thursday at the McCarty-Thomas Funeral Home, 557 E. Water St., Hughesville. Burial will follow in Salem Cemetery. Friends may call from 10 to 11 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Individual Note: According to a newspaper article from the Gazette Bulletin, March 12 1937; Ralph Spring was hit by a car, driven by William H. Herriman, in Lairdsville and crippled for life. He was awarded a settlement for $1500.

Rena P. Updegraff, 75, a resident of 1133 Beaumont Ave., Port Charlotte, Fla., formerly of Muncy, passed away on Friday, Jan. 23, 2004, in the Fawcett Memorial Hospital at Port Charlotte. Born in Moreland Twp., Lycoming County, on Wednesday, Jan. 9, 1929, she was the daughter of the late Miles and Aileen (Craig) Houseknecht.
????She was the widow of George Updegraff, who preceded her in death in 1976.
????Rena was a 1947 graduate of Muncy High School and received her nurse training at the Muncy Valley Hospital. She was employed as a licensed practical nurse at the Muncy Valley Hospital, retiring in 1987. Rena had formerly been employed at the former Weldon's.
????She was a member of the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church at Port Charlotte, Fla. Rena enjoyed neddlework and reading.
????She is survived by one stepson, Robert Updegraff of Muncy; two brothers, Dean E. Spring of Muncy and Wayne T. Spring of Port Charlotte, Fla.; and by two granddaughters, Zina Reigel and Janet Byers. She is also survived by five great-grandchildren.
????In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her first step-father, George D. Spring, and her second step-father, the Rev. Dr. Harland Fague.
????Graveside funeral services will be conducted in the Muncy Cemetery at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 4, with the Rev. Timothy W. Spring, her nephew, of Bozeman, Mont., officiating. The family will provide the flowers.
????If desired, memorial contributions may be made to the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, 2565 Tamiami Trail, Port Charlotte, FL 33952.

Individual Note: Emma L. Craig
Emma L. Craig, 81, of Moreland Township, died Wednesday, Feb. 4, 2004, at the Muncy Valley Hospital. Her husband, Ralph W. Craig, died Oct. 19, 1981.
Emma was born on Nov. 19, 1922, in Montoursville, the daughter of the late Charles and Mary Catherine (Updegraff) Hall.
Emma was a member of the Moreland Community Church, the Canusarago Grange and the Hughesville Homemakers.
She is survived by five sisters, Betty Fieste of Muncy, Flora Betts, Margaret Larson and Ruth Larson, all of Montoursville, and Elsie Halderman of Florida. Also surviving are numerous nieces, nephews, stepchildren and grandchildren.
The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Monday at McCarty-Thomas Funeral Home, 557 E. Water St., Hughesville, with her nephew, Jon Larson, officiating. Interment will be in Montoursville Cemetery. Friends and family will be received from 1 to 2 p.m. at the funeral home.
