Individual Note: ADAM BREITINGER / BREIDINGER
Adam arrived in America 26 Oct 1754. Adam was in Montgomery Co, PA1759-1767 (3 children born there). Adam bought 143 acres of land in Plainfield Twp., Northampton Co., PA in 1777. Adam took his Oath of Allegiance in Berks Co., PA in 1777.
Tax lists for Plainfield Twp. show Adam owned 100 acres of land, 2 horses and 2 cows. The 1790 US Census lists Adam living in Plainfield Twp. with 2 white males over the age of 16 and 2 white females.
Adam Breidinger entered into an agreement on 9 Dec 1811 with his son, Michael. Michael agreed to take care of his father during the remainder of his life, pay Adam's funeral expenses, and pay 900 pounds to each of Adam's remaining heirs. In exchange for this Michael would receive the farm Adam Breidinger had purchased in 1789 along with any and all personal property in Adam's possession at the time of his death.Theother heirs named in this document were: the children of Peter Breidinger(who was deceased), Eve Breidinger, wife of David Florey, and the children of Elisabeth Florey (deceased), wife of John Florey.
Tombstones for Adam Breidinger and his wife hve not been found, and there is no estate file on record for Adam. Presumably, Adam's wife, predeceased him, since she was not mentioned in the agreement he made with Michael.
Such bonding could be seen in particular at Pennsylvania churcheswhereGerman immigrants usually worshipped together. Sometimes such strong friendships were formed that when one family left the area, others soon followed along. One such family who worshipped at the New Hanover Lutheran Church along with Adolph was that of Adam Breidinger and his wife, Anna Sibilla (surname unknown). Adam had arrived in America on the ship "Mary and Sarah" from Beerfelden (a town that is situated about twelve miles from Birkenau) in Germany in October of 1754, a month prior to Adolph's arrival. At least three of Adam's children were recorded as having been baptized at New Hanover Lutheran, John Michael, born January23, 1759, Maria Eva, born March 21 , 1761, and Elizabeth, born September 29, 1763. Adam eventually moved with his family to PlainfieldTownship in Northampton County, around the time Adolph migrated to the area, where he purchased 143 acres from Lawrence Broeder on August 16,1777. Adam'sdaughters, Maria Eva and Elizabeth were eventually to marry Adolph's sons David and John. Adam's friendship with Adolph, while probably developing in Montgomery, may actually have started back in Germany since Beerfelden, Adam's hometown , is so near to Birkenau ADAM BREITINGER / BREIDINGER
