VETERAN

Mr. Richard M. ‘‘Dick’’ Kurtz, 74, of 2565 Euclid Avenue, Duboistown, died Tuesday, Dec. 5, 2006 at the Williamsport Hospital & Medical Center.

Mr. Kurtz was a member of the Christian Church at Cogan Station.

He was a United States Army Veteran of the Korean Conflict. He was awarded the Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, and the Army of Occupation Medal-Germany. He was a member of the LeRoy O. Buck Post #7863, V.F.W. at Duboistown, Garrett Cochran Post #1, American Legion at Williamsport, and a member of the Korean War Veterans of Lycoming County, Pa.

Mr. Kurtz was retired from Avco Lycoming/Textron at Williamsport, where he had been employed at a time study engineer.

Poppy was an avid outdoorsman. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and trapping. He was an avid fan of Penn State Football and the New York Yankees. Poppy was a staunch supporter and the perennial predominate fan and athletic booster at the local youth and school sporting events. He enjoyed attending not only games and scrimmages, but also practice sessions and events from flag football thru high school team sports.

He and his wife, the former Kathleen G. Miller, observed 53 years of marriage together. They were united in marriage on February 21, 1953 at Messiah Lutheran Church, South Williamsport.

Born Nov. 23, 1932 at Duboistown, he was the son of the late Merle and Alberta Rundio Kurtz.

Surviving in addition to his wife, Kathleen G. Miller Kurtz at home, are his son and daughter-in-law, Steven Lee and Cheryl L. Kurtz of South Williamsport; his brother and sister-in-law, Stanley R. and Betty Kurtz of Montoursville; his two grandchildren, Logan A. and Teena Kurtz of Duboistown and Bayli Kurtz of South Williamsport; and his great grandchild, Kamden M. Kurtz; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his late parents, he was also preceded in death by his son, Dr. Michael Lee Kurtz on February 1, 1998, and also by his half-sister, the late Vonda Mapstone.

Funeral services will be held at 12 noon on Friday, December 8, 2006 at the Charles M. Noll Funeral Home, 1 East Central Avenue, South Williamsport. His pastor, Evangelist Harry “Bud” Yoder, will officiate. Interment will be at Green Lawn Memorial Park, Montgomery.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend the visitation in Friday morning from 11 o’clock a.m. until the time of the service at the funeral home.

The family will provide the flowers.

Wilbur A. Klees Sr.
Wilbur A. Klees Sr., 80, of 476 Chippewa Road, Pennsdale, died on Thursday, Dec. 7, 2006.

His wife of 42 years, the former Gladys Marie Bigger, died on Feb. 9, 1991.

Wilbur was born in Huntersville on Feb. 17, 1926, a son of the late Cleon A. and Nellie Grace (Sechler) Klees.

Wilbur was a US Navy veteran of World War II. He worked for 35 years at Young Industries in the maintenance department. He enjoyed woodworking.

He is survived by three sons, Wilbur A. (Laura) Klees Jr., Leonard C. (Deborah) Klees, Robert W. (Edith) Klees Sr., all of Pennsdale; one sister, Mary L. Hartman of Ohio; nine grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his wife and a sister, Helen Schaeffer.

The funeral will be Tuesday 10 a.m. at the McCarty-Thomas Funeral Home, 557 E. Water St., Hughesville, with the Rev. Henry Gable, retired United Methodist minister, officiating. Burial will be in Green Lawn Memorial Park, Montgomery. Friends will be received at the funeral home on Monday from 7 to 9 p.m.

Mr. & Mrs. Francis Eiswerth, Williamsport RD3, announce the engagement of their daughter, Miss Rose Mary Eiswerth to J. Thomas Patt, son of Mr. & Mrs. Joseph Patt, Williamsport RD3. Miss Eiswerth is employed as a cashier in the office at the SS Krege Company. A graduate of the St. Joseph High School, Mr. Patt is employed by the Atlas Plywood Corporation. No date for the wedding has been set.

Jayne D. Bower

Mrs. Jayne D. Bower, 69, of 2413 West Southern Avenue, South Williamsport, died Friday, December 8, 2006, at her home.

Mrs. Bower was a communicant of the Saint Lawrence Roman Catholic Church at South Williamsport. She had been a member of the Altar and Rosary Society of the church. She and her husband were active volunteers at the church and had assisted with preparing for Masses at the church.

Mrs. Bower was retired from the Duboistown Branch of the Jersey Shore State Bank. She had more than 23 years of service. She had been with the bank branch since it was established, retiring in 1995. She had been the assistant head teller there.

Mrs. Bower was a graduate of the former Saint Joseph’s Roman Catholic High School at Williamsport.

Jayne was very concerned with her grandchildren and they were most important to her along with the rest of her family.

She was a kind and considerate person, most willing to assist anyone she could, in any manner.

She enjoyed flower gardening, working at ceramics, flower arranging, making wreaths, and the collection of figurines, bears and angels.

Born February 28, 1937 at Duboistown, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Walburga Lyons Patt.

She and her husband, Charles R. Bower were united in holy matrimony on September 28, 1957 at the Saint Lawrence Roman Catholic Church at South Williamsport. Together they observed 49 years of marriage.

Surviving are her husband, Charles R. Bower, at home, her two sons, Michael C. Bower of Lemont, Centre County, and Patrick J. Bower of South Williamsport. Also surviving are her two grandchildren, Elyse M. and Ryan Bower.

In addition to her late parents, she was also preceded in death by her late brother, Joseph Thomas Patt.

Funeral services and the Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, December 11, 2006, at Saint Lawrence Roman Catholic Church, 800 West Central Avenue, South Williamsport. Her priest, Father Michael J. Zipay, will be the celebrant.

Interment will be private at the convenience of the family at Resurrection Cemetery, Montoursville.

There will be no visitation. The family will provide the flowers.

Contributions in memory of Mrs. Jayne D. Bower may be made, if so desired, to Memorial Dialysis Fund of Central Pennsylvania, Suite B, 1660 Sycamore Road, Montoursville, PA 17754.

Marian E. Case

Marian E. Case, 98, of 1043 Franklin St., Williamsport, died Dec. 8, 2006 at Williamsport Hospital.

Born Aug. 13, 1908 in Williamsport, she was the daughter of Willard I. and Elma P. Dangle Stroble.

She was a member of Faith Wesylan Church.

Surviving her is a stepson, John Case of Cogan Station; three brothers, Donald of Anchorage, Alaska, Eugene of Williamsport, and Kenneth of Seattle, Wash. and many nieces and nephews.

Predeceasing her was her husband, William L. Case and a brother William.

Funeral services will be Monday, Dec. 11, 2 p.m. at Spitler Funeral Home, 733 Broad St., Montoursville, with her pastor, the Rev. Timothy K. Hartzell officiating, followed by burial in Montoursville Cemetery.

There will be a visitation Monday from 1 to 2 p.m. at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Faith Wesylan Church, 1033 Tucker St., Williamsport or its church missions.
