Warren J. Holmes
Warren J. Holmes, 85, of Hughesville, passed away Saturday, Dec. 23, 2006, at the Muncy Valley Hospital. Warren’s wife, the former Lois E. Houseknecht, preceded him in death on November 17, 1992. Warren was born in Penn Township on October 11, 1921, a son to the late Jasper and Lena (Weaver) Holmes.
Warren retired after 44 years of service to the former Schnadig International Furniture Company, where he was an Upholstering Supervisor. He was a World War II Veteran of the US Army Air Corps. He belonged to the Glenn Sharrow American Legion Post 35, Hughesville and also the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Post 3428, Muncy. He was a member of the Bethany United Methodist Church in Hughesville.
He is survived by three sons: Keith L. (Dorothy) Holmes, Kenneth L. (Barbara) Holmes, both of Hughesville, C. George (Dana) Holmes, of Pensacola, Fla.; three brothers; Chester Bruce Holmes, of Muncy, Oliver Wendell Holmes and H. Carl Holmes, both of Hughesville; six sisters, Anna Blanche Frantz of Hughesville, Myra Derrick of Lairdsville, Grace Swisher of Unityville, Norma Whitmoyer of Muncy, Jane Bower of Hughesville, and Mildred Schreffler of Muncy. He is also survived by seven grandchildren and three great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by a sister Nellie Budman.
The funeral will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 27, at McCarty-Thomas Funeral Home, 557 East Water St., with his nephew, Rev. Thomas M. Holmes, officiating. Burial will be in Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Hughesville, where graveside military rites will be accorded by combined veterans organizations. Friends will be received at the funeral home on Wednesday from 10 to 11 a.m.
The family will provide the flowers and suggest memorial contributions be made in Warren’s name to the Bethany United Methodist Church, 113 S. Second St., Hughesville, PA 17737.

Melvin L. Fry
Melvin L. Fry, 79, of 2140 Warrensville Road, Montoursville, and formerly of Fairfield Twp., died Dec. 22, 2006 at the Williamsport Hospital.
Born Sept. 13, 1927 in Fairfield Twp., he was the son of Harry G. and Hazel M. Fullmer Fry.
He was a member of Farragut United Methodist Church, and retired from the former Riebe Construction Co. where he was a supervisor. He was a member of the Eureka Lodge #335 F&AM; the Williamsport Consistory, and the Zafar Grotto. He was also a member of the N.R.A.; was a social member of the Eugene Grafius American Legion Post 104 in Montoursville, and enjoyed hunting and fishing.
Surviving him is a son, Terry L. (Peggy) Fry of Montoursville; a daughter, Dixie R. (James) Weaver of Montoursville; two brothers, Dale E. Fry of Montoursville and Glenn N. Fry of Tampa, Fla.; three grandchildren, Sam Gardner, Seth Fry, and Rebecca Wood, and five great grandchildren.
Predeceasing him was his wife the former Alice R. Weigle who died Jan. 4, 1997.
A graveside service will be held 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 27, at the Montoursville Cemetery with the Rev. Donald E. Yorks, his pastor, officiating. There will be no visitation.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Farragut United Methodist Church, 45 Rt. 864 Highway, Montoursville, PA 17754.
Arrangements are by Spitler Funeral Home, Montoursville.

Harold H. Winter
Harold H. Winter, 88, of 980 Carey Hill Rd., Montoursville, died Dec. 30, 2006 at Valley View Nursing Home.
Born Nov. 15, 1918 in Montoursville, he was the son of Raymond E. and Angie Edler Winter.
He was a retired dairy farmer and had received an award from the American Dairy Association for 50 years of service to the dairy industry.
Surviving him is a brother Abe A. Winter, Williamsport and nephews Raymond and Max Winter and Gary and Randy Coup.
Predeceasing him were three brothers, Harry O., Paul E., and Kenneth L. Winter and a sister Marian A. Winter.
Funeral services will be 2:30 p.m., Wednesday, Jan. 3, 2007 at Spitler Funeral Home, 733 Broad St., Montoursville with Rev. Donald E. Yorks officiating. Burial will follow in Montoursville Cemetery.
There will be a visitation Wednesday from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. at the funeral home.
