Mahlon G. Laubach

Mahlon G. (Pap) Laubach, 78, a resident of 220 Stryker Ave., Montgomery, passed away at 6:40 a.m. on Friday, March 9, 2007, at The Gatehouse in Williamsport, following an extended illness.

Born in the Powys area of Lycoming County on Wednesday, Nov. 21, 1928, he was the son of the late George and Florence Laubach.

His natural parents were killed in a fire, at which time he was adopted by the Laubachs. He was later reared by the late Martin and Carolyn Shaffer of Montgomery.

He was the husband of Nona A. (Tilburg) Winder Laubach, with whom he celebrated a 32nd wedding anniversary on Oct. 5, 2006.

Mahlon was a 1947 graduate of Williamsport High School. He was employed as a security guard by the former Avco-Lycoming at Williamsport, retiring in 1990. Prior to that he was employed by Usmers Floral Shop at Williamsport and Bryfogles at Muncy. In his earlier years he was employed as a brakeman for the New York Central Railroad.

He was a member of the First United Methodist Church at Montgomery. Mahlon was a former member of the L.O.O.M. and a former social member of the Bower-Decker American Legion Post at Montgomery. He enjoyed watching westerns and cop shows on TV, fishing and hunting, playing cards, dining out and spending time with his grandchildren.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by two stepsons and one stepdaughter-in-law, Keith A. Winder and Phillip E. and Rosemary Winder, all of Montgomery; four grandchildren, Anne Marie Simon, Kenneth Winder, Jonathan Winder and Jeremy Winder; and one half-sister and her husband, Jeanette and William Miller, and their family.

Mahlon is also survived by his dog, Bruno, and cat, Ringo. He was expecting his first great-grandchild next month.

Mahlon was preceded in death by his sister, Rilla Shooter.

A memorial service will be conducted from the First United Methodist Church, 41 W. Houston Ave., Montgomery, at 1 p.m. on Saturday, March 17, with Roosevelt Brown, his pastor, officiating. The family will provide the flowers. If desired, memorial contributions may be made to the First United Methodist Church, 41 W. Houston Ave., Montgomery, PA 17752.
