History
In the summer of 1863 the village of Golden, Illinois was created where two major railroads crossed. The village was first called LaBuda then later changed to Keokuk Junction. To avoid their mail ending up in Keokuk, Iowa, the residents of Keokuk Junction decided to change names again and in 1880 the village of Golden was established. Golden, with its vast, fertile prairie land attracted a large number of German immigrants. These immigrants with their work ethic and farming skills became a successful community, attracting their native Germans to join them in Golden and the surrounding area. Golden became an important milling center with several windmills that served a large area.
