Individual Note: The 1920 Federal Census lists Joe LITNAUNCHEN, 38, and his wife, Mattie, 35 living at 20 Fourth Avenue, Rep. Dist. 6. (Claymont), New Castle Co., Delaware. Joe and Mattie were born in Austria, their mother tongue is Ukrainian. Both immigrated in 1906. Their children are: Annie, 8, b. in PA; Stephen, 6; b. in Missouri; William, 5, b. in Ohio; and Tilly, 11 months b. in PA. Joe is a laborer in chemical work. Neither Joe nor Mattie can read or write English. He rents the house. (January 13&14, 1920; E.D. 205; Sheet 10A).
The 1930 Federal Census lists Joe LETANANCHYN, 48, and his wife, Marry, 45 living at 317 Manner Road (sic), Valley Twp., Chester Co., PA. Joe was born in Rushia (sic) and Marry were born in Hosleigh (sic), their mother tongue is Ukrainian. Both immigrated in 1906. Their children are: Anna, 18, b. in PA; Stevam,16; b. in Maryland; William, 15, b. in Maryland; Tilely, 11 b. in PA; John, 9; Peterr, 7; Walter; 2; Elmer, 2 months . All six children are living, Howard and Irene have been married 28 years. Howard is a blacksmith at a carriage factory. Joseph works as a machinist in a electric factory; Lillian is a counter at a paper mill; Irene is a cutter at a paper mill and Ellsworth is a driver of a grocery wagon. Howard is in school. Individual Note: The 1880 Federal Census lists J.C. Mahlin, 46 and his family living at 30 West Fourth Street, Chester City, Delaware County, Pennsylvania. Living with him are his wife, Ellen, 43; sons, Alfred P., 21; Ellsworth, 19; Edward, 9; and daugther, Sidney M.A., 16. J.C. Mahlin and his son Alfred are laborers. Ellsworth is a blacksmith. The other children are in school. (June 2 & 3, 1880; E.D. 20; page 6).
[Research Note: coincidentally, in 1880, the Mahlins live adjacent to the William Burk family, whose daughter Irene Burk, would eventually married Ellsworth Mahlin].

Also, living with him are his wife, Rebecca P. 30; son, James, 4 and daughter, Rachel R. 3. William and his children were born in Delaware and Rebecca was born in Maryland. William's occupation is illegible but possibly a Sizer (most of the neighbors seem to be employed in a cloth mill). (September 5, 1850; p. 378)
