Individual Note: According to the 1900 Federal Census, John Goblic and his wife Annie and daughters, Nora, Freda and Mary lived in Hillsgrove Twp., Sullivan County, PA. They had been married 7 years and had 3 children all of whom were still living. John took an oath of allegiance to the U.S., date illegible. He had been in the U.S. for 15 years and was employed in the tanning industry, i.e. animal hides.
The 1910 Federal Census p. 316 E.D. 13- lists John Gawblick and his wife Anna and their four daughters, Nora, 14; Freda, 12; Genevieve, 9; and Christina, 6 living in Hillsgrove Twp. Sullivan Co., PA. They have been married 16 years and 4 of 4 children are living. John is employed as a currier in the tanning industry. The oath of allegiance was taken in 1888. John is educated and speaks English. He rents a house.
The 1920 Federal Census E.D. 58 lists John Gawblick, 54, his wife Annie, 45 and their children, Christina 17 and Paul 7 living in Mill Creek Twp., Lycoming Co., PA. John is still a Beam Hand in the Elk tanning industry.
The 1930 Federal Census E.D. 32 lists Anna Gawblick, 56 and son, Paul, 17 living in Mill Creek Twp., Lycoming Co. PA. Anna was married at the age of 19. She cannot read or write. She owns the property. Her occupation is listed as farmer and the property is a farm. Paul is single, not employed and did not attend school in the last year, but he can read and write. They live adjacent to Elmer Entz. p. 251 Sheet 1A.

Individual Note: The 1900, 1910 and 1930 Federal Census states that Anna's parents were born in Austria-Poland.
The 1930 census list the Gawblick's living adjacent to Elmer Entz, father of Mary Jane Entz, wife of Merrill J. Smithgall. Also Anna Gawblick lives alone with her son, Paul.

Gawblick - Mrs. Anna Gawblick, wife of John Gawblick, died last Sunday at her home in Mill Creek Township. Surviving are her husband; a son, Paul of Marysville; four daughters, Mrs. Russell Miller of Montoursville, Mrs. John Hager of Gleasontown; Mrs. Palmer Smithgall of Marysville; Mrs. Lawrence Poorman of this city. Services were held Wednesday morning at the Church of the Annunciation. Burial was in Mount Carmel Cemetery.

Individual Note: According to an interview with Dorothy Maisch Stirrat on February 12, 2005; the express company was that of the Washington Heights Express Company owned by Julius' sister's husband a Schmidt.
The 1930 Census lists a Julius Klassen, 19, living in at 532 W. 163rd St., Manhattan, NYC with his uncle Willhelm Schmitt, 58 widowed and his daughter, Maria, 32. Willhelm immigrated from Germany in 1890, he has no occupation. Maria is a typist in a translation bureau and Julius is a grocery store clerk. Also living with them is a roomer, Emma Becker, 65 and widowed. Willhelm and his parents were born in Germany. Maria and Julius were born in NY. (April 5, 1930; E.D. 31-1073; Sheet 5B)
Living adjacent to them is Joseph and Sophie Marsh (Maisch).
[I don't think this is the family to whom we are related but the wife's name Minnie and the business of ice is common to the family. i.e. Joseph and Siegfried "Fred" Maisch were both ice dealers at the turn of the century. Joseph was married to Minnie's sister Sophie]. The 1920 census lists a William Schmidt, 48 and his wife, Minnie, 44 living at 1644 62nd St in Brooklyn, NY. William and Minnie were born in Germany. Their children are Lornia, 18; Lillian 8; and Margaret, 7; all born in NY. William is an ice manufacturer. William immigrated in 1899 and Minnie in 1893; citizenship is NA for both, and 1904 for William.
