Mr. & Mrs. J. F. Yarrison of 1525 Sherman Street have announced the engagement of their daughter Freda Isabel to L. Ordway Smithgall, son of Mrs. Hazel Smithgall of 719 Franklin Street. The wedding will take place in June.

DENNIS C. SMITHGALL

EDINBURG — Dennis C. Smithgall, 66, died Jan. 22, 2006, at McAllen Medical Center. He was born March 26, 1939, in Williamsport, Penn., to Louis Ordway and Freda Smithgall and had lived in the Valley since 1946.

Dennis is survived by his mother, Freda Smithgall of Seguin, Texas; his daughters, Cheryl (Zach) Labus of Edinburg, Texas, and Carla (Don) Spencer of Pontiac, Ill.; his aunt, Edna Kline of McAllen, Texas; and three sisters, Joy Albin of Angleton, Texas, Fredy (Darrell) Wait and Loris Dotterman both of Seguin, Texas. Dennis is also survived by three grandchildren, Victoria Labus of Edinburg, Michelle and Charles Spencer of Pontiac, Ill.

He was preceded in death by L.O. Smithgall (father) and Amy Skinner (sister).

A memorial service will be 4 p.m. Friday, Jan. 27, 2006, at St. John’s Episcopal Church in McAllen, with Fr. John Badders presiding. Kreidler Funeral Home Inc. of McAllen is in charge of the arrangements

Obituary: Betty Lou Smithgall, 75, of 7217 28th Ave. N.E., Seattle, died of lung cancer Sunday at the University of Washington Medical Center, Seattle, after a seven-month illness, according to a family spokesman.
Born in Williamsport, she was a daughter of the late Perry J. and Naomi E. Pierce Flaugh. She was the wife of Oren DeForest Smithgall, who died in 1980.
She resided most of her life in Lancaster, where she was involved in civic and social organizations including volunteer work at the North Museum and the Occupational Development Center. She participated in several bridge clubs.
She is survived by two sons, David, husband of Carla Smithgall, Seattle, and Todd, Alexandria, Va.; a daughter, Molly D., wife of Mike Erickson, Seattle; two grandchildren; and a brother, Jack, husband of Ethel Flaugh, Indianapolis.

     The 1930 census lists Nellie Smithgall, 45, and her family living on Duboistown and Nisbet Road as the first listing in Susquehanna Township, Lycoming Co, PA. Her family includes her daughters, Ruth E. 20 and Marguerite 16 and son LaRue S., 18. They also have a boarder, Howard E. McCarty, 47, a laborer in a sand plant. All born in PA. Ruth is a housemaid in a private home. LaRue is a laborer in a bakery. Marguerite is listed as a laborer in a rubber factory. Nellie rents the house for $12 per month.

Larue Smithgall, 45, a Williamsport bakery operator, was found shot to death Saturday in wooded country near Lock Haven. Smithgall was found by a hunting companion a short while after they separated.
