Individual Note: Jacob Egli was born in Zurich, Switzerland, and was a weaver by trade. He emigrated to this country March 81, 1822. He settled in Shamokin Twp (now Ralpho Twp), Northumberland County, PA.
He was engaged in driving a team of horses from Sunbury to Pottsville, PA, carrying grain down and store goods back. In religious beleif, Jacob was a Presbyterian.
The family of Egle or Egli, belond to the ancient German tribe of the Langobards, who settled in the northern part of Italy in the 4th or 5th century. The ancestors of the Swiss Eglin immigrated from the canton Tessire to St. Gall about the 12th century. This ancestor had 5 sons, three of whom settled in the department of the Loire, in France, subsequently, upon the revocation of the Edict of Nantes, removing to the Canton of Zurich where they became followers of the Swiss reformer Zwingli; while the other two remained in the Canton of St. Gall. A branch of the later, somewhat later emigrated to the Canton of Lucerne, the St. Gall and Luzerne families adhered to the Roman Catholic faith, but a friendly relation with the Zurich branch was constantly maintained. It is more that probable that some one of the same family reached England at an early period, for we find that in the seventh year of the reign of Edward I (AD 1276) "Wilelmus Egle'et Custancise uxor", had holding in the Hundred of Northstowe, county of Cambridge. The English family of Eagle is different in its origin. The Orthography of the name is somewhat perplexing, form the fact that Egle is that adopted by the Zurich branch, while that of Egly by those of St. Gall. Although the first settlers in America wrote their name Egle, there are changes in different seciton of the union, cheifly due to igonorance or carelessness. The New York and Central Pennsylvania Families write it correctly, Egli; those in Ohio and Illinois, Eagle; while in the southern states it is Egley or Eagley, and in California, Ekel, all having the same origin, descendants of Marcus Egle.
In the genealogy which is herewith presented, we have given the uniform spelling, Egle. "Genealogical Record of the families of Beaty, Egle, Muller, Morray." by William Henry Egle, M.D.M.A Harrisburg, PA -- 1896.

William Frederick Kaseman was one of the early settlers of this portion of Northumberland County. he was born in Nassau-Dilburn, Germany, June 8, 1760, and came at the age of twelve years to this country with a brother and sister, landing at Philadelphia. Little is known of his early life excepting that he was a resident of Berks County from 1772 up to the date of his coming to Northumberland County, about 1815. He purchased a tract of land containing fifty acres in what is now Ralpho Township, which he cleared, and afterwards added to by subsequent purchases. He was an excellent farmer, and a successful businessman. He married, in Berks County, Elizabeth Huntzner, and they were the parents of the following children: Jacob, who died in Ohio; John, Joseph; Daniel; David; Lydia A., who married John Pensyl; Catharine, who was twice married, her last husband being Gotlieb Fogle, and Elizabeth, who married Leonard Pensyl.
William Frederick Kaseman was well known throughout the sparsely settled country at that time for his great physical endurance. When he first made his settlement the nearest store was at Sunbury, where he would go bare-footed for the necessary purchases for his family; up to within four years of his death, August 1, 1867 at the remarkable age of one hundred seven, he continued to do his share of the farm work. he was one of the original members of St. Peter's Reformed Church, of which he was an elder, and was buried in the old graveyard of that society. His wife died many years before him, and of his family all are dead but one son.
