Individual Note:
     1860: William Winder 26, and his wife, Sarah E. 24; children: Mary M. -2 and Charles T. 9 months were found living in the 6th Ward of Trenton NJ in 1860, page 389. The census record states that William, Sarah and Mary were all born in Pennsylvania, but Charles was born in New Jersey.

The 1870 census has William Winder, 27; wife, Sarah E. 24 living in Franklin Twp. Lycoming Co. PA. They have children: Charles 13; Phoeby, 8; Caroline, 6; Leticia, 2. William is a carpenter. Census states all were born in PA. p. 116B. (Transcribed as WENLLER)

The Winders were not found in the 1880 census for Jackson Twp. Luzerne Co. PA, nor were they found in Franklin or Jordan Twps in Lycoming Co.

The 1880 Federal Census for Nanticoke, Luzerne Co. PA lists a William Winters, 45 and his wife, Pheobe, 36; his children: Phoebe Ellen 18; Caroline 16; Leticia Alice, 13; George Wesley, 6 and his step daughters, Casey Filbert, 12 and Emma Filbert 3. William is a carpenter. All born in PA.

The 1890 Veterans Schedules lists William Winder living in Cease Mills, Jackson Twp. Luzerne Co. PA. The note states that Private William Winder served in the 61st Regiment of the PA Infantry from Sept 30 1864 to June 20, 1865. The corresponding note for this line states under the Disability Incurred: Pills.

The 1900 census of Jackson Twp., Luzerne Co. PA lists William Winder, 65; his wife, Pheoby, 55; and son William I., 17. William and Phoeby have been married for 18 years. William born Sept 1834, his father b. in PA, mother in NJ, he is a lathe and shingle sawyer. Phoeby b. Mar. 1845 in PA, father in NJ, mother in PA, she can neither read nor write. William I., son, April 1883 in PA he is a fireman on (illegible). William owns his house but it is mortgaged, it is not a farm. Pheoby is listed to have had 5 children, 4 of whom are still living. These could not possibly be Phoeby's children expect William I, unless they are from another marriage. There is an additional notation in the number of years married column that is illegible. (Speculation that there was another wife, prior to Pheoby). They live near the Wayman Cease family.

By 1910 the Winders no longer are found in Jackson Twp. Luzerne Co. PA.

August 19, 2006 Visited the Ceasetown Cemetery found a G.A.R. Marker for Wm Winder lists 61st Inf, Company G, no other dates are found on the marker. Grave is located near the Ottensman plot in the southeast corner of the cemetery in a wooded area. Graves are sinking and area is unmaintained.

     The 1880 Federal Census lists a Peter Winder, 40 living at 130 W. 13st St. Manhattan, NY with his wife Catharine, 28, and daughter, Louisa, 3. He is an expressman, born in PA. Catharine was born in Ireland and Louisa in NY. (June 10, 1880; E.D. 287; Page 43).

     The 1910 census lists Annie Waltz, 50, widowed, and her family living in Eldred Twp. Lycoming Co, PA. Living with her are: son, Elmer, 21 married; daughter, Laura 19, single; Raymond 17 single; Elsie 16 single; Herman 9; Harvey 8; and grandson Chester 2.

The 1920 census lists Anna Waltz, 60, widowed and her family living in Eldred Twp. Lycoming Co, PA. Living with her are: daughter, Laura 29, single; Raymond 27 single; Elsie 25 single; Herman 19 single; Harvey 18; and grandson Chester 11 and Eleanor 6. (These children are possibly Laura's.) Laura is listed as a college student. Raymond is a laborer in a silk mill. Herman works on his brother's farm. They live on Christian Hill Road.

The 1930 census lists Annie Waltz, 70 and her family living in Eldred Twp. Lycoming Co, PA. Living with her are: daughter, Laura 39, single; and grandson Chester 21 and Eleanor 16.

Mrs. Anna Irion Waltz, 8?, of Montoursville RD., died at her home on Wednesday, October 29, 1947.
She was a member of the First Baptist Chruch of Warrensville.
The widow of Charles Waltz, she leaves three sons, Elmer J. of Montoursville RD; Raymond G., Norristown; Herman C., city; two daughters, Mrs. Earl Chaapel and Mrs. Harvey Hocker, Montoursville RD; four brothers, John Irion of Montoursville, Matthias and Charles Irion, city; and Andrew Irion of Kansas; one sister, Mrs. Katherine Kurtz, Montoursville RD; eighteen grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.

     The 1850 Federal Census lists John Walse, 32, living in Hepburn Twp., Lycoming Co., PA with his wife, Sophia, 34; daughters, ditto (Sophia?), 6; Rachel, 4 and son David 2. John is a farmer. All born in PA. His property is worth $1300. (Note: Eldred Twp was not formed until 1858).

The 1860 Federal Census lists John Waltz, 39, living in Eldred Twp., Lycoming Co. PA with his wife, Sophia, 36 and children: Sophia, 15; Rachel, 13; David, 11; Daniel, 9; Jacob, 7 and Charles, 5. John is a farmer, his real estate is worth $4000 and his personal property is worth $500. All born in PA and all the children attend school. The neighbors are: Henry Kline, George Reeder and Ulrich Stabler. (Sept. 13, 1860; page 415.)

The 1870 Federal Census lists John M. Waltz, 50, living in Eldred Twp., Lycoming Co. PA with his children: Sophia, 21; Rachel, 20; David, 18; Samuel, 1?; Jacob 15; Charles, 13. All born in PA. John Waltz's parents were foreign-born. John is a farmer, his real estate is worth $4000 and his personal property is worth $1000. The boys attend school.

The 1880 Federal Census lists John Waltz, 63 living in Eldred Twp., Lycoming Co., PA with his children: Sophia, 34; Samuel, 28; and Charles, 23. John is a farmer and his sons are laborers. All born in PA except a notation that John's parents were born in St. (June 1 & 2, 1880; E.D. 47; Page 2B).
