John F. Hamm
       John F. Hamm, 83, of 2601 East Hills Drive, died Tuesday, May 27, 2003, at home.
       He was retired from Trimtex Inc., as a braid designer, after 45 years of service.
       Born in Bastress, Sept. 25, 1919, he was the son of John Xavier and Margaret Stopper Hamm.
       A member of St. Boniface Catholic Church, John was an active volunteer at the St. Boniface parish bingo, kitchen and the annual parish carnival.
       He enjoyed the outdoors, hunting, fishing, the Swartzwald Hunting Club, gardening and quilting.
       He loved his grandchildren and reminiscing with family and friends.
       He was a World War II Army veteran.
       Surviving are son, Ronald J. (Amy) Hamm of Allenwood; daughters, Barbara A. Kline, Jackie M. (Fred) Pacacha and Carol J. (Bob) Welliver, all of Williamsport and son James L. (Linda) Hamm of Kathleen, Ga. Also surviving are 15 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
       He was preceded in death by his wife of 55 years, the former Eileen M. Eck, Nov. 26, 2000; a son, Joseph Hamm; grandson, Jason M. Rinker; a sister, Viola Dincher; and brothers, Robert, Frank, Ernest and LaRue Hamm.
       A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in St. Boniface Catholic Church, 326 Washington Blvd., Saturday, at 10 a.m. His pastor, Msgr. Stephen McGough will officiate. Friends may call at the Crouse Funeral Home, 133 E. Third St. on Friday evening from 7 to 9 p.m. There will be a recitation of the Rosary at the funeral home at 8 p.m. Burial will be in St. Boniface Church Cemetery.
       Memorial contributions may be made to the St. Boniface Catholic Church, 326 Washington Blvd., St. Boniface Church Cemetery.

     The 1920 census lists James A. Winder, 39 and his wife Margaret A. 35 living in Benton Twp. Columbia Co., PA. . Also residing there are sons Kenneth W. 12, Fines L. 9, William D 8, daughters Bessie M. 5, Annabel 3 y 10 mo, and Dora E. 2 y 7 mo. James' father William H. Winders, 62 a widower lives with them. All born in PA. James is a farm laborer. E.D. 3 sheet 7B Benton Twp. Columbia Co. PA.

The 1930 Federal Census lists James A. Winders, 49 and his wife, Margaret 46 living in Greenwood Twp., Columbia Co., PA. Also living with them are their son William, 18; daughters, Anna B., 14; Dora, 12; and son, Phineas, 20. James was 24 when first married and Margaret, 21. They rent the house and pay $6 per month.
