Obituary from the Williamsport Sun-Gazette, PA, Monday, April 16, 2007

Fern M. Doebler

Fern M. Doebler, 95, formerly a long-time resident of Lincoln Drive, Loyalsock Township, died Saturday, April 14, 2007 at the Gatehouse.

Born January 3, 1912 at Rose Valley, she was the daughter of Elery and Vida Yoder May and the widow of Herbert C Doebler, who died September 1, 1977.

Fern grew up on the family farm at Wallis Run. On her 95th birthday, in Florida where she spent the last three winters with her son, she recited a poem that she had learned for a grade school program at Wallis Run – “How a Farmer’s Daughter Earned a Dollar.”

She was an avid home gardener of both vegetables and flowers. Until recently, she even grew her own potatoes. Last summer, she canned 60 quarts of tomatoes and peaches. She was a member and past president of the Williamsport Garden Club and raised prize-winning African violets. Her roses, daffodils, primroses, and dogwoods added a splash of color to her home on Lincoln Drive. Fern was also a skilled cook and in past-times had knitted and sewed.

Fern was a member of Northway Presbyterian Church.

Surviving are a son, Milo Harold Frey of Muncy; a daughter-in-law, Linda Stein (Mrs. Henry Frey) of Muncy; two step-daughters, Lois Kellet of Montoursville and Kathryn Chaapel of Warrensville; a step-son, Dale Doebler of Williamsport; two granddaughters, Katherine Frey (Mrs. Paul Yakubick) of Winfield and Amy (Mrs. Peter) Gerney of Wilmington, NC; three grandsons, Henry F (Michelle) Frey Jr. of South Williamsport, Michael H (April) Frey of Exeter, NH and Eric S (Colleen) Frey of Duboistown; thirteen great-grandchildren: Jeffrey, Eric Jonathan, Fletcher, Nicoya, Ashley, Taylor, Natasha, Sasha, Brian, Gregory, Andrea, Alexander, and Bradley; two nephews and a niece.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Herbert C Doebler in 1977, two sisters, Helen Phillips in 1967 and Jeanne Milligan in 1980; a son, former Lycoming County Commissioner Henry F Frey in 2001 and daughter-in-law Doris Spotts Frey in 1984; and daughter-in-law Dorothy (Mrs. Milo H.) Frey in 2004.

There will be no viewing. Graveside services and burial will be at the convenience of the family.

Memorial contributions may be made in Fern’s memory to Northway Presbyterian Church, 1520 Northway Road, Williamsport, or the Gatehouse at Divine Providence Hospital, 1100 Grampian Blvd, Williamsport.

Arrangements by Kaufman Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 2102 Northway Rd., Williamsport.
