     The 1930 Federal Census lists Charles L. Goodman, 40, and his family living in Bristol, Bucks Co., PA. Also living with him are his wife, Blanche A. 37, daughter, Catherine S., 15 and son William A. 10. He owns the house which is worth $7000. They have a radio. Charles was 23 when first married and Blanche, 20. Charles is a printer in a news office. (April 3, 1930; E.D. 9-19; Sheet 3B)

Individual Note:
     The 1920 Census list Lawrence Mackowiak and his family living in Hamilton Twp., Tioga Co., PA. He is a coal miner. He and his wife were born in Poland and immigrated in 1891, naturalized in 1904.

The 1930 Census lists Laurence Mackowiak and his family living at 2145 Lincoln Street, Williamsport, PA.

Stuart S. Mackowiak

Stuart S. Mackowiak, age 83, of Mansfield, died on Tuesday, Dec. 5, 2006, in Robert Packer Hospital, Sayre.

Stuart was born on May 7, 1923, in Morris Run, a son of Stephen and Helen (Wichtowski) Mackowiak.

Prior to his retirement, Stuart was a teacher in Fairbanks, Alaska. He served as a Military Police Sgt. in the U.S. Army during World War II and the 24th Medical Division in the Korean conflict. Stuart was a member of Holy Child Catholic Church in Mansfield.

Stuart is survived by two brothers and sisters-in-law, Bernard “Ben” and Dorotha Mackowiak of Pine City, N.Y., Edward and Mary Mackowiak of Elmira Heights, N.Y.; one sister and brother-in-law, Cecilia and Richard Whited of Kalispell, Mont.; and several nieces and nephews.

Stuart was predeceased by three brothers, Raymond, Walter and Floyd Mackowiak; two sisters, Dorothy Baker and Helen Hemenway.

A memorial mass will be celebrated on Saturday, Dec. 9, at 11 a.m. in the Holy Child Catholic Church, 242 S. Main St., Mansfield, with the Rev. Albert Leonard as celebrant. Burial will be in St. Joseph’s Cemetery in Morris Run.

The Jacquelyn A. Buckheit Funeral Chapel, Crematory & Monuments, PC, 637 S. Main St., Mansfield, is assisting the family with arrangements.

     The 1930 census states that Warren Winder, 33, white male and his wife Winifred, 26, live at 2109 West 5th Street, Wilimington, Delaware. Warren's mother Lillie, 78 also lives with them; she is widowed. They have children, Warren Jr., 8 born in New Jersey; Elwood, 7 born in PA; Lillian, 5 born in PA; Charles, 4 yr 2 mo. born in Delaware. The census states that Lillie and her parents were born in PA. Warren's occupation is illegible. Warren rents his house and pays $38.00 per month. Warren was 24 when first married and Winifred 16. Warren is believed to be a veteran of the World War I.

The Social Security Death Index provided the birthdate of Warren Winder as September 6, 1896, which is consistent with census data. The death date is December 23, 1974 in Wisconsin. Social Security number was applied for and issued in Delaware.

Individual Note:
     A lengthy story appeared recently in the Williamsport Sun-Gazette featuring J. Byrton D. Winder's experiences in World War II as a pilot. He will be inducted into the Delaware Aviation Hall of Fame in October 2005.

He was a 1st Lieutenant in the Army Air Corps in World War II. He piloted a C-46 transport plane over the Himalayas and Asia. He was awarded the Asiatic-Pacific Theatre Ribbon with four battle stars, the Distinguished Flying Cross and the Air Medal. He piloted 96 missions over "The Hump" (between India, over the highlands of Burma, then landing in China).

After the war he worked as a flight instructor and few executives from Dupont Industries in private aircraft (presumably from Wilmington, Delaware).

He currently lives in Middletown, Delaware. He has a daughter, Nancy Cheney of Bear, Delaware. He recently (Nov 2004) married his high school girlfriend, Marjorie Barton Myers.
