     The 1870 Census lists Austin Haldren, 32 and his wife, Sarah J. 27 living in Jordan Twp., Lycoming Co. PA. Austin is a laborer. They have two children, Mary 7 and McClellan 5. Also living with them is Solomon Whitmoyer, 26 a laborer. All born in PA. No personal property value given. p. 142. June 21, 1870.

Served in the Civil War for the Union in Company E, 209 Pennsylvania Inf. He enlisted on 09 September 1864 as a Private.

     Lavina Holdren was only married to Charles Prescott for a month before he enlisted in the Union Army and was killed in 1864 at Cold Harbor, Virginia.

     The 1880 census of Pine Twp., Columbia Co. PA lists George Holdren, 37 as a servant. His "wife" is listed as Elizabeth Stackhouse, 29; also their children are: Abby V. 12; Livera, 8; Fannie May, 7; Alnora, 5 and Murry, 2. Elizabeth and the children were all born in Columbia Co. George is a farmer born in Columbia Co. All others born in PA. The single box is checked next to George and the widowed box is checked next to Elizabeth. (June 12, 1880, E.D. 184, p. 2B)

The 1900 census of Pine Twp. Columbia Co. PA lists George Holdren and his wife Elizabeth and son Murry, 23. George is a farmer and owns his farm. All were born in PA. It states that they have been married only 19 years. The number of children is not listed. (It now appears that Elizabeth is not the birth mother of George's children.) (June 9, 1900, E.D. 26; sheet 6B)

The 1910 census of Pine Twp., Columbia Co. PA lists George Holdren, 63 and his wife, Elizabeth, 67. They have been married 40 years. Six of six children are living. George and Elizabeth were born in Pennsylvania. George's father was born in New Jersey. George is a farmer and owns his farm. Their neighbors are the Vernon Cox family and the John E. Gardner family. Living only one house away is their son, Murry Holdren and his family, living adjacent to the Gardner's. (May 5, 1910; E.D. 33; Sheet 12B.)

Text: George Holdren Died Yesterday At Pine Summit Ill nine days with la grippe, the death of George Holdren a well known Pine Summit farmer, occured at his home early yesterday morning. Although it was realised his condition was serious it was not deemed critical and news of his death came as a great shock to the members of his family. He was aged seventy years and is survived by his wife and five daughters and one son: Mrs. Robert McCarthy, Mrs. Samuel Creveling and Mrs. Charles Edwards of Bloomsburg; Mrs Walter Laubach of Milton and Mrs. Robert Heilman of Eyersgrove and Murray Holdren of Pine Summet. Also surviving are a brother and a half brother. Funeral services will be held at ten o'clock Thursday morning in the Pine Summit Methodist church, with the Rev. Faus officiating. Interment will be made in the Pine Summit cemetery.

     According the the John Meginiss book on Lycoming Co. the Penn Twp chapter states the Jerry Holdren was a postmaster of the Strawbridge PO in 1886 until Sept 1887 when the office was discontinued.

The 1900 Federal Census lists Jeremiah Haldren, 40, b. Dec. 1859 and his family living in Penn Twp., Lycoming County, PA. Included are his wife, Martha D. 34 b. November 1865; daughter, Chula 11 b. July 1888; sons, Raymond 2 b. Feb. 1898 and Artie, 9 months, b. August 1899. Three of five children are living; they have been married 15 years. Jeremiah is a sawyer and was unemployed for 2 months in the past year. All born in PA. He rents his house. (E.D.67 ; p. 110A, June 20, 1900)

Jerry HOLDERN, 51, was found in the 1910 census living in Lycoming Co with wife, Martha, 44; R. Earl, 12; Artie L., 10; Ruth E., 7; and Willard J., 5. E.D. 0060, Visit 0054.

The 1920 census lists Jerry Holdren, 60 and his wife, Martha 53 living at 110 North Market Street, Muncy, Lycoming Co., PA. They have two children living with them; Ruth E. 17 and Jason W. 14. All born in PA, except it states that Jerry's parents were born in the United States. Jerry is a laborer for the Keystone Paint Co. Ruth works as a winder in a silk mill. Jason works as a helper in a woolen mill. (January 20, 1930; E.D. 62; Sheet 21A)

The 1930 census lists Jerry Holdren, 70 and his family living in Muncy Creek Twp., Lycoming Co., PA. Living with him are his wife, Martha, 64 and daughter Ruth 27. Ruth is single. Jerry was 26 when first married and Martha 21. All born in PA. Jerry is a laborer doing odd jobs. Jerry rents the house and pays $18 per month; they do not have a radio.

Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Holdren of South Loyalsock Avenue, Montoursville, celebrated their fiftieth wedding anniversary last Sunday at their home. They were married at Strawbridge, January 20, 1885, and have lived in Lycoming County all their lives. Mrs. Holdren who is 75, was engaged in the lumber business until ten years ago. Both are in excellent health.
In celebration of their anniversary Mrs. and Mrs. Holdren entertained the members of their family and a few friends at dinner. The following children and grandchildren were present: Mrs. and Mrs. Artie Holdren and children, Artie Jr., Donald, and Dean; Mrs. and Mrs. Jason Holdren and children, Mary, Jerry, Lawrence, Carol and Leroy, all of Montoursville; Mrs. and Mrs. R. Bertram Nichols and children, Arlene, Dale and Ella, of Williamsport; Mrs. and Mrs. Raymond Holdren and daughter, Martha of Bodines; and Mrs. Susan Sherwood of Johnson City, NY.

Holdren - Jerry Holdren, 80, of 338 Jordan Avenue, Montoursville, died last Sunday at the Williamsport Hospital. Surviving are his wife; the following sons and daughters, Raymond of Bodines; Artie of Montoursville; Jason of Warrensville; Mrs. Charles A. Golder, of Muncy Valley; Mrs. Bertram Nichols, of this city, and a brother Wesley, of Hughesville. Services were held Wednesday afternoon at the Spitler Funeral Home, with the Rev. C.F. Himes and Rev. W. Arthur Faus officiating. Mrs. Holdren was in the lumbering business in Muncy Valley for 50 years and operated a mill at Strawberry Ridge. (photo)

     The Application for Marriage state that Wesley Holdren was married once before and his first wife died February 18, 1887. He lives in Strawbridge, Lycoming/Sullivan Co., PA at the time of the marriage application.

The 1900 census of Moreland Twp. Lycoming Co. PA lists Wesley Holdren b. April 1862 in PA and wife, Lizzie b. December 1866. They have been married 12 years and have no children. Wesley is a day-laborer and rents his house.

Wesley C. HALDRON, 48 was found in the 1910 census living in Wolf Twp., Lycoming Co with his wife Annie E. HALDRON, 44. They have been married 21 years and have no children. Wesley work in a furniture factory. (Apr 2 & 3, 1910; E.D. 104; Sheet 12A).

Weslyan Holdren, Furniture Factory Employee Loses Fingers on Right Hand
Hughesville, June 27 - Weslayan Holdren, an employee of the Hughesville Furniture Factory, was painfully injured Monday morning. He usually runs the carving machine, but was directed to take the "sticker" for the day. He was on the new job for about an hour when his right hand was drawn into the machine, cutting off the first finger and crippling the other three. Drs. Kiess and Smith attended to the patient.

In 1920 Wesley C. Holdren, 57, and his wife Annie 54 lived in Wolf Twp. Lycoming Co. PA. E.D. 68 p. 164

The 1930 Federal Census lists Wesley Holdren, 67 and his wife, Annie E. 65 living in Wolf Twp., Lycoming Co., PA. He was 27 when first married and she was 25. He is a laborer in a ladder factory. He owns his house which is worth $1000, it is not a farm. (April 19, 1930; E.D. 41-83; Sheet 3B)

     The 1920 Federal Census lists Artie Holdren, 20, living at 226 Chatham Street, Williamsport, Lycoming County, PA with his wife, Nora, 20. Both were born in PA. Artie is a machinist. They appear to live as a separate family in the same dwelling as the Clarence F. Diffenbach, 42, family.

The 1930 Census lists Artie Holdren living at 516 Montour St. Montoursville, Lycoming Co. PA with his family.

VETERAN

Artie M. Holdren Sr., 86, of Troy, PA went to be with the Lord on Sunday evening, December 2, 2007.

Artie had celebrated his 86th birthday with family and friends. He enjoyed hunting and bowling, but most of all took great pride in his 14 children, 70 grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Artie leaves behind his sons and daughters: Carol (Joe) Williams of Canton, Keith (Wendy) Holdren of Maple Shade, NJ, Gary (Kim) Holdren of Granville Summit, PA, Michael Aderhold of Atco, NJ, Denny Holdren of Troy, PA, Nora Sue Holdren Odum of Panama City, FL, Randy Holdren of Troy, PA, Brett (Gisela) Holdren of Germany, Darryl (Brenda) Holdren of East Troy, PA, Linda (Trey) Ripley of St. Marys, GA, Jeffrey (Shelly) Holdren of Troy, PA, Jody (Dawn Allen) Holdren of Granville, PA, and Artie (Delores) Holdren, Jr. of Granville, his companion of 13 years Ellen Judson, his care taker Dawn Allen, all his grandchildren, great grandchildren, great great grandchildren, brothers: Bobby Holdren of New York State, David Holdren of Muncy, PA, and several nieces and nephews.

Artie is predeceased by his son Terry Holdren, and wives Doris (Thomas) Holdren and Martha (Aderhold) Holdren, and brothers Dean and Tony Holdren.

Artie was a 1939 graduate of Montoursville High School, was a World War II US Marine Corps. Veteran, belonged to both VFW Post # 8675 and American Legion Post #49, both in Troy, the Moose Lodge of Canton, and retired in 1982 from Kennedy Valve Co. in Elmira, NY where he was a general foreman of quality control.

Family and friends are welcome to call from 6:00-8:00 P.M. on Thursday, December 6, 2007 and again from 10:00-11:00 AM on Friday, December 7, 2007 at the Gerald W. Vickery, Jr. Funeral Home Inc., 110 West Main Street, Troy, PA. The funeral service to honor Artie’s life will be held Friday, December 7 at 11:00 AM at the funeral home with Rev. Garry Zuber of the 1st Baptist Church of Troy officiating. Burial will follow the service in Glenwood Cemetery with military rite given by the Troy Veterans Honor Guard.

Memorial contributions may be made in Artie’s memory to the charity of ones own choosing.

Vera was born in Illinois all other born in PA. Raymond is a machinist for an illegible manufacturing company. The house is rented.
