VETERAN
Elwood C. Miller, 91, of 450 Miller Road, Montoursville, passed away October 2, 2007 at the Gatehouse.
He was born June 3, 1916 in Montoursville, the son of Harry R. and Enzie M. Flick Miller.
Elwood served in WW II with the U.S. Navy and was a member of the American Legion Post #1 in Williamsport. He had worked for Centre Concrete (formerly Cement Products Co.), where he was a truck driver. Elwood and his wife, the former Rosella E. Fry, were married on July 13, 1940.
In addition to his parents he was predeceased by four brothers, Lewis, Laverne, Emerson and Walter, and by two sisters, Dorothy Harris and Hazel Miller.
Surviving him besides his wife, is a son, Willard E. (Judy) Miller of Montoursville; three daughters, Mabel B. (Glen) Karschner, Delores A. (Fiance- Richard Fisher) Clayton, and Verna M. (Larry) Wilson all of Montoursville; a brother, Bruce A. Miller of Turbotville; ten grandchildren and sixteen great-grandchildren.
The funeral service will be held 10 a.m. Friday, October 5, at the Church of the Good Shepherd, 827 Good Shepherd Road, Montoursville, with the Rev. John F. Hoover officiating. Internment will follow in the church cemetery. Friends will be received on Thursday from 6-8 p.m. at the Spitler Funeral Home, 733 Broad St., Montoursville.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to either The Church of the Good Shepherd or to The Gatehouse, c/o Providence Health System Foundation, 1100 Grampian Blvd., Williamsport, PA 17701.

Ernest F. Fischer, 64, of 336 Madison St. Shillington, died Saturday at 12:32 a.m in Reading Hospital, where he had been a patient since Aug. 12. He was the husband of Marguerite J. (Smithgall) Fischer. Born in Williamsport, Lycoming County, he was a son fo the late Lawrnece and Margaret (Smith) Fischer. Fischer was employed as a manager by the former Hamilton Bank, Reading, retiring in 1973. He was a member of St. John Baptist De La Salle Roman Catholic Church, Shillington, where he was a comittee chairman of Cub Schout Pack 237 from 1964 to 1970. He was an Army veteran of the Korean War and received a Purple Heart and Bronze Star Medal. he is also survived by a son, Ernest F. Jr.,Montrose Manor; and four daughters: Ellen M. wife of David Dunkelberger, Mohnton; Linda K., wife of Ray Sohn, Myerstown, Lebanon County; Brenda G., wife of Brent Keffer, Robesonia; and Janet F. Kramer, at home. Other survivors include two brothers, Lawrence and Charles, both of Williaimsport. There are also 19 grandchildren. He was predeceased by a son, Christian Larue Fischer and a daughter, Kathy Marie Fischer. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday at 10 a.m in St. John Baptist Church. Burial will be in Gethsemane Cemetery, Laureldale. Edward J. Kuhn Funeral Home Inc., West Reading is in charge of arrangements.
