Text: Bertha M. Hocker, 85, of 151 Hocker Rd., Cogan Station, and a guest at Sycamore Manor, passed away Sunday, August 31, 2008 at the home. She was born September 6, 1922 in Williamsport, a daughter of Archie and Anna Harmon Horn.
Bertha was a member of the Warrensville Baptist Church and the Eldred Twp. Volunteer Fire Co. Auxiliary. She enjoyed bingo, knitting, and especially her family and her grandchildren.
Bertha was married to Clarence E. Hocker who predeceased her on November 5, 1986. She was also predeceased by nine brothers and sisters.
She is survived by a son, Dr. Robert L. (Stacey) Hocker of Montoursville; four daughters, Nancy M. (C. Richard) Cavanaugh of Cogan Station, Bonnie M. Easton of Williamsport, Gloria A. (Alvin) Dittmar Cooke of Cogan Station, and Linda R. (Douglas) Rupert of Cogan Station; a brother, Alvin (Lillian) Horn of Montoursville; eleven grandchildren, and four great grandchildren.
The funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Thursday, September 4, at the Spitler Funeral Home, 733 Broad St., Montoursville with the Rev. Connie A. Waugh officiating. Interment will follow in Oak Lawn Cemetery. Friends will be received on Thursday from 12 p.m. at the funeral home.

Text: Esther M. Miller, 76, of 1639 Brushy Ridge Road, Montoursville, passed away Friday, July 11, 2008 at the Gatehouse after battling cancer for 11 years, during which time she developed a friendship with many of her caregivers. She was born April 13, 1932 in Montoursville, a daughter of Leonard and Margaret Harris Karschner.
Esther was a member of the Fairfield United Methodist Church and its Womens Society. She had worked for the former GTE Sylvania in both Halls Station and Montoursville, and retired from Service America at West Co on Reach Road. She enjoyed supporting her children and grandchildren in their sporting events, yard sales, baking, gardening, road trips, and visiting with her sisters. Her greatest enjoyment other than her family was meeting with her classmates, the class of 1950.
On September 27, she would have celebrated her 56th wedding anniversary with her husband, Harry S. Miller.
Surviving in addition to her husband are children, Deborah L. Miller of Montoursville; Paul E. and wife Susan, and their children, Jason, Lisa, and Anthony of Cogan Station; Dennis S. and wife Melody, and their children, Christopher and Anna (Summer), Jeremy, Cody, Jordan, and Corey of Cogan Station; Diane M. Miller and her children, Tierney M. Guinter, and Tessa C. Guinter of Montoursville; Perry L. and wife Jane A., and their children, Amber and Mark Morgan, (Caleb Hall, Aubrey and Madelyn) Jeffrey and Sara (Brianna), Shari and Joshua Cupp, (Hailey) of Montoursville; Dwayne E. and wife Cathy, and their son Austin of Montgomery, and Pamela R. and husband, Brian Shafer and their children, Collin and Reilly of Harrisburg.
Esther is also survived by three brothers, Robert Karschner of Muncy, Donald Karschner of Montoursville, and Glen Karschner of Montoursville, and by three sisters, Gertrude Hunter of Montoursville, Elsie Eck of Wallis Run, and Verna Horn of Montoursville.
She was predeceased by her parents, and a brother, Calvin.
The funeral service will be held 10:30 a.m. Tuesday July 15, at the Spitler Funeral Home, 733 Broad St., Montoursville with the Rev. John R. Shafer officiating. Interment will follow in Twin Hills Memorial Park. Friends will be received on Monday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Text: Mabel L. Stewart, 87, of 2238 Linn St., Williamsport, died Wednesday, Oct. 22, 2008, at her home.
Born May 26, 1921 in Montgomery, she was the daughter of Henry Lee and Beatrice Elizabeth Hoff Shaner.
Mabel was a member of St. John's-Newberry United Methodist Church and the former Arthur McKean Sunday School class. She graduated from Montgomery High School in 1939 and was employed in civil service at the Naval Torpedo Station in Alexandria, VA. She retired from Sylvania in Montoursville.
Her husband of 47 years, Fred S. Stewart, died in 1993. Surviving are three children, Jeffrey W. (Sara) Stewart of South Williamsport, Timothy C. Stewart of Quakertown and fiance Melanie Schuelein, and Peggy E. (Owen) Chute of Muncy; three grandchildren, David and Charles Stewart and Laura Minnella; and a great granddaughter Mabel Elizabeth Minnella.
Mabel was preceded in death by two brothers, Lewis W. and A. Earl Shaner.
Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Monday from Sanders Mortuary, 821 Diamond St., with the Rev. Kraig L. Faust officiating. Burial will follow in St. John Lutheran "Brick Church" Cemetery in Montgomery. Friends may call at Sanders' from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday. www.sandersmortuary.com
