Text: Florence Moynihan
Created memories by sharing skills, stories
Florence Moynihan, 89, ended this life's journey on Monday, June 2, 2008, at
the Maria Joseph Emanuel Center, Danville. A memorial service celebrating
her life will be held at the Brady Funeral Home Inc. on Friday, June 6, at 1
p.m. with the Rev. Edmund Minnick officiating.
Mrs. Moynihan was one of 14 children born to Edward and Edith Goodrich
Bailey of Walton, N.Y. Growing up in a large farming family, Mrs. Moynihan
became an expert seamstress, enjoying sewing many of her own clothes. She
also enjoyed knitting and crocheting for her many family members and
friends. Her hallmark apple pies added a special delight to Thanksgiving and
Christmas dinners. She found simple pleasures and peace working in her
garden, canning vegetables, appreciating her many varieties of plants and
flowers, camping and fishing. She enjoyed sharing her homemaking skills,
hobbies and family stories, thereby creating memories that will live on in
the hearts of her family and friends. In recent years, Mrs. Moynihan and her
companion, Ralph Cotner, enjoyed traveling in his motorhome throughout this
country and Canada. They also enjoyed cruises to the Caribbean, Alaska and
the Panama Canal.
Mrs. Moynihan and her late husband operated a small antiques store in
Oneonta, N.Y., for many years. Mrs. Moynihan also served as director of the
American Cancer Society in Norwich, N.Y., until she and her husband retired
to Plant City, Fla. She moved to Danville in 1983.
Mrs. Moynihan was predeceased by her husband, Patrick Moynihan, in 1979; and
by a son, James Patrick.
She is survived by her loving daughter, Patricia Kimber, of Riverside. She
will be greatly missed, yet fondly remembered, by her four grandchildren:
Katherine Gabry and her husband, Jon, of Kearny, N.J.; James Kimber and his
wife, Pamela, of York; David Kimber and John Kimber and his wife, Christina,
all of Danville. Her great-grandchildren will dearly miss their "Granny":
Jon Gabry Jr.; Rebecca, James Jr. and Kenneth Kimber; Max Kimber; and Chris
and Katie Kimber and their mother, Karoleigh Kimber Long. Mrs. Moynihan is
also survived by her brother, Irving, of Washington, N.C.; two sisters: Ruth
Tweedie of Walton, N.Y.; Dorothy Simpson of Van Vleck, Texas; as well as her
companion, Ralph Cotner, of Danville.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to the American Cancer
Society or the American Heart Association. Private interment will be in
Oneonta, N.Y.
Those wishing to do so may make a contribution in Florence's memory to the
American Cancer Society, 1948 E. Third St., Williamsport, PA 17701 or the
American Heart Association, 71 N. Franklin St., Wilkes-Barre, PA 18701.
