Marvin L. “Lefty” Heffner, 79, of 1202 Fairview Drive, Montoursville, died at his home on Wednesday, August 29, 2007.
   
Born July 10, 1928 in Williamsport, he was a son of Willard F. and Beatrice Pearl Swartz Heffner.
   
Lefty was a 1946 graduate of Williamsport High School, had been employed for 22 years by Stone Container, and was a lay speaker in the United Methodist Church for over 20 years. He is a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Montoursville where he served as a Eucharistic Minister.
   
Lefty was a past president of the Williamsport Area Management Club, served on the South Williamsport Area School Board for seven years, and was a past board member of Lycoming Child Care Services, and a member of the East Hill Hunting Club.
   
He was a baseball player in the Central and West Branch leagues in the 1940’s, coached in the 1950’s, umpired in the American Softball Association for over 35 years, and played in the over 40 fast-pitch softball league for many years. He was an avid fan of the St. Louis Cardinals and the New York Yankees.
   
Following the death of his first wife, the former June A. Hart, in 1990, he married the former Mary Graff Bender in 1991.
   
Surviving besides his wife, are four children: Judy A. Berkheiser and Dr. Steven L. Heffner of Williamsport, Susan L. Eckroth of Versailles, Ky., and Rosanne H. Moon of South Williamsport; seven step children: Debra Rowles, James L. Bender III, Cathy O’Brien, Karen Opp and Teresa Johnson, all of Montoursville, Kelly Childs of Altoona, and Timothy Bender of North East. There are 23 grandchildren and three great grandsons. Also surviving are a brother, Jack Heffner, and a sister, Dorothy Lehman, both of Williamsport.
   
A daughter, Marie E. Heffner, died in 1954.
   
A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Saturday in Our Lady of Lourdes Church, 800 Mulberry St., Montoursville, with the Rev. Michael Marchetti officiating. Interment will follow in Twin Hills Memorial Park.
   
The family will provide the flowers and suggests memorials be given to his church or the charity of one’s choice.
