Joyce Ann Bunce, 59, of 3171 Northway Road, Williamsport, died Wednesday, October 3, 2007, at the Gatehouse Hospice Center in Williamsport.
   
Born January 4, 1948, in Williamsport, she was the daughter of the late Fred and Madeline (Furl) Ghalib.
   
She and her husband of 41 years, Dennis R. Bunce, were married Dec. 24, 1965.
   
Joyce was a 1966 graduate of Loyalsock High School. She was known by many for her years of service at Giant Market, where she worked for more than 20 years as a cashier, retiring in 2002.
   
She was a member of Christ Episcopal Church, Williamsport.
   
Joyce loved to travel and had a passion for life. She loved the simple things that make life beautiful.
   
Surviving in addition to her husband are one son and daughter-in-law, Dennis R. and Lora Bunce of Loyalsock; one daughter and son-in-law, Michelle A. and Gordon Turner, of Fort Worth, Texas; one brother and sister-in-law, Fred and Jean Ghalib, and one sister, Mary Falk, all of Williamsport; and three grandchildren, Chaz Bunce, Briana Turner and Gordon Turner III.
   
She was predeceased by a brother, Charles Ghalib, and two sisters, Betty Cortez and Elaine Kiessling.
   
The funeral will be at 11 a.m. on Monday, Oct. 8, at Kaufman Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Inc., 2102 Northway Road, Williamsport. Officiating will be the Rev. Thomas Reeder, rector of her church. Burial will be in Montoursville Cemetery.
   
Friends will be received at the funeral home on Sunday from 6 to 8 p.m.
   
The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Scleroderma Foundation Delaware Valley Chapter, 385 Kings Highway North, Cherry Prof. Bldg., Cherry Hill, NJ 08034.

Kenneth R. Bortz Jr. 59, of Montgomery died Monday, Oct. 2, 2000, at home after an extended illness. He and his wife, the former Alice A. McCarthy, would have observed their 35th wedding anniversary Oct. 26. He was a self-employed truck driver associated with Milton Transportation. He was a veteran of the Coast Guard. He was a 1960 graduate of Montgomery High School. He enjoyed stock car racing. He was a member of New Covenant Assembly of God, Montgomery. Born Oct. 2, 1951, in Muncy Creek Township, Lycoming County, he was a son of Kenneth R. and Naomi R. Winder Bortz Sr. He was reared by his maternal grandmother C. Mae Winder. Surviving, besides his wife, are his mother, Naomi Gatlin of Eureka Calif.; two sons, Kenneth Scott of Mesa, Ariz. and James E. of this city; a sister, Beth Anne Brough of Watsontown; and four grandsons, Michael Timothy Damien and Devin. He was preceded in death by a brother, Michael. The funeral will be at 8 p.m. Friday at Betzer’s, 108 N. Main St., Muncy, with his pastor, the Rev. James E. Pentz, officiating. Friends may call at the funeral home from 6 to 8 p.m.

COGAN STATION — Brett E. Bennett, 26, of 2146 Pleasant Valley Road died Tuesday, Sept. 19, 2000, at C.H. Waltz Sons Inc., Route 973, as a result of an accident. He was a mechanic there and previously worked at General Rental in Montoursville. He and his wife, the former Melissa A. Myers, would have observed their fifth wedding anniversary Nov. 18. Born March 9, 1974, in this city, he was a son of Melvin E. and Carol L. Winder Bennett. Bennett was a member of the Loyalsock Valley Antique Association. He was a graduate of Montoursville Area High School. Surviving, besides his wife and parents, are his paternal grandparents Mr. and Mrs. Dorland E. Bennett of Cogan Station; and maternal grandparents Mr. and Mrs. Charles L. Winder of Robbinsville, N.C.; a daughter, Katrina J. at home; two brothers Mark L . of Marion, N.Y., and Terry L. of South Williamsport; and a sister, Lynette J. Bower of Montoursville. He was preceded in death by a brother, Kevin, in 1987. The funeral will be 2 p.m. Friday, at Spitler’s, 733 Broad St., Montoursville, with Pastor Lou Dichiacchio of the Independent Bible Baptist Church, Montoursville, officiating. Burial will be in Oak Lawn Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday

Virginia L. Eakin Slater, 73, of Sandy Lake, formerly of West Sunbury, died at 11:55 a.m. Sunday at UPMC Shenango Campus in Farrell, after a 3˝-year illness.
   
Born in Grove City, May 26, 1929, she was the daughter of Henry Eugene and Nellie Hinds Eakin.
   
A 1947 alumna of Grove City High School, she was a homemaker and had been a secretary and production manager at the Level Works in Parker.
   
She was a member of Sandy Lake Presbyterian Church in Sandy Lake Township, Mercer County.
   
Surviving are her husband, Charles Mynheer Slater, whom she married. June 18, 1948; a daughter, Mrs. Terry (Shirley) McGinnis of Ashland, Ohio; three sisters, Mrs. Frank (Delores “Dee”) Alessio and Mrs. Jon (Vicki) Pierson, both of Grove City, and Mrs. James (Joan Long) Buchanan of Sarasota, Fla.; and a brother, Donald L. Eakin of Grove City. Four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren also survive.
   
She was preceded in death by a son and two infant children.
   
SLATER — Friends of Virginia L. Slater, who died Sunday, May 18, 2003, will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at CUNNINGHAM FUNERAL HOME, 306 Bessemer Ave., Grove City. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home with the Rev. Galen Joe MacDonald, her church pastor, officiating. Burial will be at Millbank Cemetery, Fredonia.
